Massage Therapy Practitioner
I am currently a student at East West Healing Arts Inst. In Madison, WI. I am studying eastern and western massages. The massage techniques are a blend of both hemispheres including acupressure and reflexology, accu stone massage, cupping, moxibustion, and many more which will be available to the public soon. For now I am practicing Swedish massage, Myofascial Release, Craniosacral, Deep Tissue massage, Sports massage and Pregnancy massage.
Swedish Massage
30 minutes $30 - to work on specific areas of need
60 minutes $50 - full body
90 minutes $80 - just need a little extra time on stressed areas
Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee over a period of 5 – 8 weeks.
Myofacial Release or Craniosacral Therapy
90 minutes - $75
Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue therapy intended for pain relief and increasing range of motion. Techniques include manual massage for stretching the fascia and releasing bonds between fascia, integument, muscles and bones are applied. The fascia is manipulated, directly or indirectly, supposedly to allow the connective tissue fibers to reorganize themselves in a more flexible, functional fashion.
Craniosacral therapy session involves the therapist placing their hands on the patient, which they say allows them to tune into what they call the craniosacral system. By gently working with the spine, the skull and its cranial sutures, diaphragms, and fascia, the restrictions of nerve passages are said to be eased, the movement of cerebrospinal fluid through the spinal cord can be optimized, and misaligned bones are said to be restored to their proper position. Craniosacral therapists use the therapy to treat mental stress, neck and back pain, migraines, TMJ Syndrome, and for chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia.
Pregnancy Massage 60 minutes - $55
Reduces back pain, joint pain, improves circulation, reduces edema, muscle tension, headaches, stress, and anxiety. Improves oxygenation of the soft tissues and muscles and better sleep
Precautions
I do not recommend massage in the frist trimester. Also, women with certain health conditions may not be able to have pregnancy massage. It's best to consult your doctor and a certified pregnancy massage therapist. Women with the following conditions should speak with a health care provider prior to receiving a massage:
· High risk pregnancy
· Pregnancy induced hypertension (PIH)
· Preeclampsia
· Previous pre-term labor
· Experiencing severe swelling, high blood pressure, or sudden, severe headaches
· Recent birth
How is pregnancy massage different from regular massage? The mother's body must be properly positioned and supported during the massage, using pillows and padding. Proper positioning ensures comfort and safety for the mother and baby.
